A Light Show in Heidelberg

Share

The city of Heidelberg will conduct the third of three summer light shows at its famous castle--one of the most popular tourist spots in Germany--on Saturday and spectators may watch for free from the right bank of the Neckar River.

Heidelberg Castle dates from the 14th Century. Three times a year, on the first Saturdays of June, July and September, the city puts on light shows to evoke the great fires of 1689, 1693 and 1764. The illuminations begin with a multicolored light show that is supposed to make the castle look as if it’s burning again, and then, when that ends and the castle goes dark, there is a fireworks display.
