Two men robbed a Mervyn’s Department Store of $20,000 in jewelry at gunpoint Monday as a third man waited outside in a getaway car, police said.

The armed robbery occurred at 10:25 a.m. at the Mervyn’s in Huntington Center, at 7777 Edinger Ave., Sgt. Mike Mello said. Two men walked up to the jewelry clerk, and one pulled out a blue steel revolver while the second man scooped jewelry out of the display cases, Mello said.

The man with the gun was described as black, about 25 years old, 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds. He had no facial hair, and he was wearing a dark, oversized polo shirt and dark pants, Mello said. The second suspect was white, about 19 to 25 years old, 5-foot-10 and about 170 pounds. He had light eyes and was wearing a vertically striped shirt and a blue and white bandanna on his head, police said.

After grabbing the jewelry, the men fled to a waiting brown Chevy Camaro with gold trim, Mello said.

The car headed east on Center Drive toward the San Diego Freeway, Mello said.

No customers were confronted in the store, which had opened just 25 minutes before the robbery, police said.

A spokeswoman for the store said no one was injured.
