San Gabriel Valley : School Board Recall Petitions Are Rejected

Share

A group trying to recall three Bassett Unified School District board members received a big F from the county on their petitions. The registrar-recorder’s office rejected the papers because of grammatical errors.

Copies of the recall petitions submitted to the registrar for approval had mistakes in capitalization, punctuation and syntax, said spokeswoman Grace Romero, and were disallowed on that basis.

Recall proponents must correct the errors and resubmit the papers within 10 days.

“It’s very complex,” said Virginia Fuentes, a recall organizer. “Maybe there were some errors in there, but we’ll try again.”

The latest effort marks the second attempt to recall board members Toni Giaffoglione, Della Rios and Alfred Cobos for their support of embattled Supt. Linda Gonzales.

The first recall attempt fell short of the 8,491 signatures needed.

Gonzales has been the subject of a district attorney’s office investigation into whether the district purchased materials from a firm she owned.
