Air Safety Fund

* Re “Air Traffic Control Is No Place to Scrimp,” editorial, Aug. 24:
I wince whenever I read about air traffic equipment failing. It receives considerable coverage. What I never see in the press is anything about the $20-billion fund the Administration is sitting on. Ronald Reagan, then George Bush, and now Bill Clinton refuse to release this money due to the fact that it will make the deficit larger.
This money results from a tax on air fares. It is supposed to upgrade air traffic equipment. Instead, our politicians, regardless of party, sit on the fund.
How many disasters do we need before we get action?
