Jewish Center Plans Reopening Celebration
The West Valley Jewish Community Center, which was heavily damaged in the Northridge earthquake, is gearing up for a reopening celebration.
The event, scheduled Oct. 8, will include choral performances, clowns, a demonstration of Israeli martial arts, a hands-on lesson about the Sukkot holiday and tours of the site at 22622 Vanowen St., West Hills.
The center has been operating in makeshift facilities since the January, 1994, temblor, holding its nursery school sessions in temporary trailers and other activities in a converted warehouse on Independence Avenue, Assistant Director Nina Gordon said.
“We tried to keep as many things going as we possibly could during the last 18 months,” Gordon said.
