COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Fien Not Only Bruin With Concussion
Three Bruins are suffering from concussions and will be held out of practice in the early part of this week, but Coach Terry Donahue feels all three will play Saturday against Brigham Young.
Along with quarterback Ryan Fien, offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden and tight end Brian Richards suffered concussions in Saturday’s 31-8 victory over Miami.
Ogden came out of the game, but Fien and Richards continued playing.
“Sometimes those concussions can linger and be around for 10 days or so,” Donahue said. “The doctors never let them play when they are lingering. It’s not even debatable. . . . We are going to be real cautious how they practice this week.”
Fien still had a headache Monday from his concussion, received when he was hit by Miami defensive lineman Kenard Lang.
Lang’s blow also opened a cut on Fien’s chin that required four stitches at halftime. Fien was scheduled to receive an additional 10 stitches on the wound late Monday.
