A 28-year-old Porterville man is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges related to an attack Monday on his Camarillo girlfriend and brief standoff with police.

Jose Manuel Lopez was being held Tuesday in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He faces charges of burglary, spousal battery, assault with a deadly weapon and an unrelated charge of robbery.

When Ventura County sheriff’s deputies arrived at 7:17 p.m. Monday, Lopez, allegedly armed with a knife, had locked himself in his girlfriend’s second-floor apartment at 1021 Temple Ave. in Camarillo.

His girlfriend, whose name was not released by authorities, was not injured and had fled to a neighbor’s apartment, authorities said.

When Lopez would not come to the door or speak with officials, sheriff’s deputies surrounded the area and instructed neighbors to go to a safer place.

Lopez surrendered and was arrested without incident about 45 minutes after the first call to the Sheriff’s Department.
