Three suspects in the gang-related killing of a Lake Forest youth were arrested over the weekend in Las Vegas, an Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Tuesday.

Froilan Salud Rivera, 19, of Rancho Santa Margarita, who allegedly drove a burgundy Taurus seen at the site of the Aug. 28 shooting of Trabuco Hills High School senior Edward Flores, was taken into custody Friday after a records check by Las Vegas police, Sheriff’s Lt. Ted Garner said.

Also arrested were two male juveniles from the Orange County area who were with Rivera, Garner said. The juveniles were later released to their parents.

A fourth suspect, who is believed to have fired the handgun that killed Flores, was arrested shortly after the shooting, which occurred outside a house where a party was taking place.

“We had three [suspects at large] that included the car’s driver and two young men who were in the back seat at the time,” Garner said.

Flores, 17, of Lake Forest, was shot to death after he and Rivera got into an argument when Rivera and his friends drove up in the Taurus and tried to crash the party in the 22000 block of Aspan Street in Lake Forest, Garner said.

Rivera, according to sheriff’s investigators, drove away from the party but made a U-turn in the street and returned and confronted Flores. Witnesses said they heard gang slogans at the time of the shooting. Two shots were fired at Flores, who later died.
