The Big Noise

(NR) Laurel and Hardy made this in 1944, and it’s generally considered their least-inspired effort. This time around, the boys are detectives hired to protect a bomb. Directed by Malcolm St. Clair. Screens at 12:45 Friday at the Cypress Senior Citizen Center, 9031 Grindlay St., Cypress. FREE. (714) 229-6776.

(NR) Up first is Charlie Chaplin in “The Immigrant,” one of his earliest pictures, a short made in 1917. His Little Tramp alter-ego faces the problems of being a newcomer to America. The evening ends with “The General,” perhaps Buster Keaton’s finest comedy. His athletic, inventive genius is clear in this 1927 movie, set during the Civil War. The two films screen Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. as part of the Chapman Film Classics series at Chapman University’s Argyros Forum, Room 208, 333 N. Glassell St. FREE. (714) 744-7018.
