Sow: Radishes, winter greens and herbs; also peas (except in high mountains), broccoli, carrots, cauliflower (except in mountains); beets, kohlrabi, turnips (except in high mountains and low dessert).
Plant: Garlic, shallots.
Harvest: Assorted beans, cardoon, collards, eggplant, herbs, Jerusalem artichokes, kale, New Zealand spinach, summer squash, pumpkins/gourds/winter squash. Also corn, cucumbers, melons/watermelons, peppers, tomatillos/tomatoes (except in low desert), Asian greens, beets, leafy celery, chard, green garlic/onions/shallots, radishes (except in deserts), peanuts (except in mountains), sweet potatoes (except in deserts and mountains).
COASTAL CLIMATES
Sow: Brussels sprouts, fennel.
Plant: Perennial herbs.
Harvest: Artichokes, carrots, cauliflower, kohlrabi, salad greens, spinach, turnips.
9HIGH DESERT
Sow: Brussels sprouts, celeriac/leaf celery, onions.
LOW DESERT
Sow: All high desert plus common beans/chickpeas/favas, cardoon, cucumbers, fennel, mustards.
Plant: Artichokes, strawberries.
INTERIOR CLIMATES
(Where fuschias grow fairly well.)
Harvest: Carrots; broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, turnips.
MOUNTAINS
(Sow/plant in cold frame.)
Harvest: Artichokes, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, kohlrabi, onions, radishes, salad greens, spinach, turnips.
KEY
Winter greens and herbs: Cabbage, chard, chervil, chicories, Chinese cabbages, chives, cilantro, collards, corn salad, cress, dandelion, endive, green-in-the-snow mustard, green onions/shallots, kale, komatsuna (mustard spinach), lettuce, mizuna, parsley, rosette pak choi, sorrel, spinach.
When seeds can be sown, seedlings of the same crop can be planted. All crops can be grown in containers.
