COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Still No Quarterback Announcement

Share

John Robinson is delaying the designation of his starting quarterback for Saturday’s opening game against San Jose State as long as he can.

“We’ll announce it at noon on Saturday,” he said, laughing.

“[Offensive coordinator] Mike Riley and I will talk it over tonight,” he said, indicating a decision will probably be announced today.

Junior returnee Brad Otton and senior Kyle Wachholtz are competing for the job.

Robinson is concerned about depth on his offensive line. First he lost starting guard Chris Brymer, who failed a biology class last spring and is academically ineligible. Then guard Robert Loya injured a knee the day before training camp began and missed virtually all it. He has returned to practice.

“Right now, we could afford to lose one guy, but any injury losses after that and we’d have real problems,” Robinson said.
