The Armenian heritage will be celebrated Saturday at Farmers’ Place in Van Nuys with a morning of song, dance and food.

The Armenian Cultural Festival will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the southeast corner of Van Nuys Boulevard and Sylvan Street, near the Van Nuys Civic Center.

Armenian bands will play contemporary and traditional music, as belly dancers twirl and magicians perform tricks to entertain shoppers at the weekly outdoor farmers’ market.

“This festival will introduce people to a colorful culture with which they may not be very familiar,” said Marie Tolbert, the market’s manager.

Parking and admission are free and the festival is accessible to wheelchairs. Part of the proceeds from crafts booths will benefit the Volunteer Center of the San Fernando Valley, which organized the event with assistance from the Armenian Musicians and Artists Center Inc. in Glendale.
