Mother Will Face Murder Charges in Death of Son, 2
A Long Beach mother of two faces arraignment today on murder charges in the death of her 2-year-old son. Cathleen Carter, 25, is suspected of killing her son Marcus, who died last Friday at Lakewood Regional Medical Center.
Police say Carter had beaten the boy the previous evening while attempting to potty-train him.
When she discovered he was not breathing the next morning, she called paramedics. The boy was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
An autopsy earlier this week revealed that the boy died of multiple blunt-force injuries.
Carter is being held without bail. Authorities are trying to determine where they will place Carter’s 3-year-old daughter, Destiny.
