Rose Schacht; Emmy Award-Winning Television Writer, Producer

Rose Schacht, 43, Emmy Award-winning writer and producer. Ms. Schacht shared the Emmy in 1990 with her writing partner, Ann Powell, and two other writers, Mel Frohman and Cristopher Canaan, for their miniseries screenplay “Drug Wars: The Camarena Story.” Praised as “first-class” by Times television columnist Howard Rosenberg, the miniseries was based on a nonfiction book, “Desperadoes.” It told the story of Enrique Camarena, a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was tortured and slain in Mexico in 1985. Among Ms. Schacht’s other television scripts was “Night Owl” in 1993. An expert in Russian studies, Ms. Schacht studied history, art and religious practices of many cultures, particularly Tibetan Buddhism. On Sept. 2 in Los Angeles of breast cancer.
