The U.S. Park Service has asked for more time to develop a plan for turning the closed stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House into a park, officials said.

White House spokesman Mike McCurry said the Park Service had expected to have recommendations this month but now is looking at early November.

The stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue, and a short stretch of State Place behind the White House, were closed May 20 in the wake of the April 19 bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City.
