Q: How much genetic difference is there between the different races of humans?

A: For all practical purposes, none. Scientists estimate that the genes that account for such racial characteristics as skin color and hair texture may account for about 0.01% of the entire human genome, but that small amount of difference is well within the normal range of variability between two members of the same “race.” By contrast, a human and a chimpanzee have about 5% difference in their genomes.
