Son of Kirk Douglas Pleads Not Guilty in Airline Incident
The youngest son of actor Kirk Douglas pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he assaulted two American Airlines flight attendants during a July 30 trip from New York to Los Angeles.
Eric Douglas, 36, is scheduled back in court Oct. 17 for what prosecutors believe will be a two-to-three-day trial.
The sometime-actor could face up to 20 years and six months in prison, as well as a $255,000 fine, if convicted of the two federal counts. U.S. District Judge John G. Davies scheduled an Oct. 10 status conference.
According to a federal indictment, Douglas assaulted and intimidated Jessie Serpone and Amelia Coward and interfered with their work.
Douglas allegedly activated all the flight attendant call buttons on a panel that controls the aircraft’s emergency evacuation system.
Douglas later ran through the aircraft and was “loud and obnoxious,” according to an affidavit filed with a July 31 complaint.
The defendant was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport when he arrived in Los Angeles.
