San Gabriel Valley : LIBRARY FEE

It used to be that using Pomona’s library cost no more than a few “shhhhhhhs” from the librarians.

But now, if you live outside the city, be prepared to pay cash.

Starting next month, the city will begin charging non-residents--who make up one-third of the library’s patrons--$30 annually for a library card.

“We’re are the only independent city library surrounded by communities with dwindling county libraries,” said library Director Halbert Watson. “The work level for our staff is increasing and we needed to recapture the cost of doing that business.”
