The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art and the Philharmonic Society of Orange County are teaming up to present the Hilliard Ensemble on Oct. 29 at the museum and to promote events already on their schedules to the Latino community.

“We both simultaneously, without knowing it, planned events surrounding Mexico,” said Peter Keller, the Bowers’ executive director. “When we realized that, we thought of combining our efforts where possible.”

Added Dean Corey, the Philharmonic Society’s executive director: “This is very important for us. We’re making some real headway into the Hispanic community. It’s not to the point where we would like, but we’re extremely enthusiastic and encouraged with the momentum we’ve generated so far.”

The Hilliard Ensemble will sing sacred music dating from the time of the Virgin Guadalupe in conjunction with the “Visions of Guadalupe” exhibition at the museum through Dec. 31 (see accompanying story). Concert tickets are $20. Related educational and community events are planned.

The Philharmonic Society will also present Tango X 2 on Nov. 16 and “Fiesta Navidad” with the Mariachi los Camperos de Nati Cano on Dec. 23. Both will be at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

Corey and Keller said their collaboration will continue beyond the current season, but nothing is definite yet.

Concert information: (714) 553-2422.
