PLAY IT AGAIN, SON: Stephen Humphrey Bogart will visit what was familiar territory for his parents when he comes to the Balboa Bay Club on Monday to promote “Bogart--In Search of My Father,” the new biography he’s written about his dad. Bogart, whose mother is Lauren Bacall, appears at noon luncheon sponsored by Round Table West. . . . The legendary couple kept a boat in Newport Harbor and would often stay at the Hotel Laguna, where the Bogart Suite remains the best room in the house.

CHOOSY CLINK: Don’t expect any “Cool Hand Luke”-style jail breaks from Seal Beach’s privately run slammer. City leaders assure residents that only low-risk prisoners are allowed in the facility, such Laker forward Elden Campbell, who paid the $65-a-day fee to serve a drunk-driving sentence there. . . . Says Councilman George Brown. “If you can call prisoners high-class, these are high-class prisoners.”

BEAM ME UP: Former Orange Mayor Jim Beam is constantly amused at the reaction he gets because of the name he shares with the legendary bourbon distiller. . . . “Once I was placing a long distance call through an operator and she refused to believe that my name was Jim Beam. She thought I was placing a bogus call,” says Beam, who is among the namesakes of the whiskey king invited to Jim Beam’s 200th anniversary party next month in Kentucky.

NEW-AGE Y: Seekers of life’s deeper mysteries have not traditionally turned to the YMCA for guidance. But the Y in Irvine is one of the few in the nation to offer exercises in self-revelation with classes such as “Who Am I?” and “Connecting With Your Inner Child.” . . . Executive director John Provost says it’s an effort to keep up with a society different from the 1950s: “That’s when the YMCA was offering dog-obedience classes. These days, we’re trying to deal with life’s challenges on a higher level.”
