Six people were arrested in Oxnard on suspicion of drunk driving Saturday night after Oxnard police set up a sobriety checkpoint on Channel Islands Boulevard between Victoria Avenue and Peninsula Road.

Police towed 10 vehicles belonging to impaired and unlicensed drivers.

In all, 1,104 vehicles went through the checkpoint, 18 sobriety tests were given and 23 drivers were cited for license violations.

The checkpoint was set up from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. It was the 11th in an ongoing series of checkpoints, conducted with a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety in an effort to reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes and unlicensed drivers on the streets.
