Share

Th U.S. Postal Service is seeking the public’s help in locating a San Fernando Valley woman who allegedly cashed several stolen checks at area banks last December.

Laurey Anne Ackerman, 29, whose last known address was in Canoga Park, is being sought on a warrant charging her with nine counts of forgery, Postal Inspector Pamela Prince said.

Authorities say the woman steals blank checks from mailboxes, then makes them out to herself and forges the name of the account holder.

Ackerman was convicted in January of stealing mail from mailboxes in another case in Ventura County, Prince said.

She was to have turned herself in Jan. 12 to begin serving a three-month prison sentence, but never showed up, Prince said.

When she was arrested in that case, Ackerman had in her possession 100 pieces of mail stolen from Simi Valley, Chatsworth, Encino, Tarzana and Los Angeles, authorities said.

She is described as white, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, with blue eyes, shoulder-length brown hair, a scar on her left wrist and tattoos on her right shoulder.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Postal Service at (818) 405-1200. Callers may remain anonymous.

The Postal Service pays rewards of as much as $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of mail thieves.
