With the Angels holding a shaky lead in the down-to-the-wire race for the American League West title, more than 200 callers barraged Anaheim Stadium’s switchboard Monday seeking information on snaring playoff tickets.

Victory will be official any day now, proclaim devotees who have cooled their heels since 1986, the last time the Angels won the division title.

But who’s counting?

“You bet we’re excited; it’s been almost 10 years,” said Angels Booster Club President Mike McCuistion of Garden Grove. “We’re really up about it.”

Tickets for potential Angels playoff games go on sale Wednesday morning at Anaheim Stadium and via phone order at (714) 663-9000. Stadium gates open at 6 a.m.; numbered wristbands will be distributed at Gate 2 at 7:30 a.m.; a random drawing to determine the order in which wristband holders buy tickets will start at 9:30 a.m., and tickets will be sold starting at 10 a.m.

During ticket sales, stadium concession and souvenir stands will be open, and footage of past playoff games and highlight clips will be shown on the big screen.

“We want to make this a party atmosphere,” Angels spokesman Larry Babcock said.

Roughly 15,000 tickets would be available for the October games, Angels officials said. If the Angels win the division title, three games will be played at Anaheim Stadium; if they win a wild card spot, two games would be played there.
