The Look: The fall collections are filled with ‘60s-inspired Mod styles, epitomized by hip-huggers circled with wide belts, shiny body-clinging blouses, slick loafers and psychedelic handbags.

How to Do It Big: Gucci wowed ‘em with its Mod-inspired collection by American designer Tom Ford. Magazine fashion editors around the world couldn’t resist the shot of Kate Moss marching down the runway in midnight-blue rayon velveteen jeans with contour belt and sapphire-blue silk shirt, accessorized by a psychedelic vinyl tote bag and patent leather loafers with the signature Gucci horse-bit detail.

The Gucci boutique in Beverly Hills has sold out its stock of the pants and shirt, but they can be special ordered. Depending on the cut, the jeans range in price from $295 (pictured) to $325. The blouse is $495. The loafers are $295, and the bag, due in the boutique soon, will go for $550. Gucci ready-to-wear is also available at Maxfield in Los Angeles and Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.

How to Do It for Less: Gucci is not the only designer with a Mod jones. Local designer Eduardo Lucero sells his cotton velveteen hip-huggers in either navy blue or garnet red. The pants, available at Lucero’s Glossy boutique--”just off Beverly” in Los Angeles--cost $135 and fit like a low-riding dream. Another local design team, Maggie Barry and Ty Moore from Van Buren, has created a stretch Lycra Western-style shirt priced at $110. It’s available at Nicole in Sunset Plaza. The tote--a clear vinyl one that we lined with brightly colored shiny paper--is $22 at Leeds, citywide. The patent loafers with silver buckles are $24, also at Leeds.
