SAN CLEMENTE : Motor-Home Owners Get Break on Parking

Share

Motor-home owners will be able to park their vehicles on the street for as long as 72 hours per trip under an ordinance approved unanimously by the City Council this week.

Residents may leave recreational vehicles on the street 36 hours before and 36 hours after a trip to load them for travel and unload them for storage.

The previous limit was 12 hours total, which is “impractical and imposes a considerable hardship on what otherwise should be the beginning of a pleasurable experience,” said resident Anthony Tobia, who proposed the change in a letter to the council.

The new ordinance allows residents six RV street-parking permits a year at no cost. After the first permit is issued, RV owners may request the five renewals by phone rather than in person.

For motor homes without permits, the city’s five-hour limit on street parking will continue to be enforced, said Bob Goldin, principal planner.
