Doctor Saws Through Wrong Side of Skull
A doctor sawed through the wrong side of a patient’s skull during emergency brain surgery to remove a blood clot, hospital officials said Friday.
After the surgeon realized his mistake, he closed the incision and completed Thursday’s operation, said John Cappiello, a spokesman for Bridgeport Hospital. The doctor’s operating privileges were suspended pending an investigation.
The patient, a 39-year-old man, was in critical condition Friday, which officials said is customary after this type of surgery. The error is not expected to affect his recovery.
