Milkens’ Generosity Extends Throughout City

Share

We realize that Scott Harris is a columnist with wide latitude on what he decides to write, but his piece (Sept. 10) on Milken Community High School was simply inflammatory and offensive.

As officers of the West Valley Jewish Community Center, which is part of the Bernard Milken Jewish Community Campus, we know firsthand the depth of the commitment of the entire Milken family to educational and cultural programs. It is certainly a measure of the Milkens’ generosity that that commitment is not limited to the Jewish community, but helps support projects for people throughout Los Angeles.

The name Milken Community High School is appropriate because it recognizes what one family has done to promote learning. That is a mitzvah (good deed) in the Jewish tradition.
