THOUSAND OAKS : Films at Cal Lutheran to Focus on Diversity
A series of three films focusing on diversity will be featured at an international film festival this fall. The series is presented by the Cultural Diversity Roundtable, a joint project of the American Assn. of University Women’s Thousand Oaks branch and Cal Lutheran University.
The films are free and will be followed by group discussions.
The first film, “Weapons of the Spirit,” will be shown Sunday. The movie details a tiny French farming village, Le Chambon, that defied the Nazi occupation and provided a safe haven for thousands of Jews. Filmmaker Pierre Sauvage, who was an infant in Le Chambon during the occupation, will be on hand to discuss the film.
The “Ballad of Gregio Cortez” will be shown Oct. 22. The film, directed by Robert M. Young, is based on the true story of the persecution of a Mexican man who kills an American sheriff in self-defense.
The third film, “Spices,” will be screened Nov. 19. The feminist fable by Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray tells the story of a poor woman who rejects the advances of the town’s tax collector.
All films will be shown at 4 p.m. in Cal Lutheran’s Preus-Brandt Forum. For more information, call 493-3151.
