Obituaries : Thomas Jolicoeur; Community College Board Member

Thomas Jolicoeur, a former Ventura County Community College District board member and political candidate, died Sunday at his Camarillo home. He was 74.

Jolicoeur, who was born March 15, 1921, in Waverly, Minn., had been a Ventura County resident for 32 years, coming from Granada Hills.

He had been a self-employed financial planner for 42 years and a member of the California Assn. of Life Underwriters.

Jolicoeur served on the community college district board from 1975 to 1979 and also on the board of directors of the Ventura County Council of Drug Abuse from 1970 to 1975 and the board of Interface Children, Family Service from 1973 to 1984. He was a member of the Ventura County Human Relations Board from 1972 to 1975 and also active in the Sierra Club.

Active in politics, Jolicoeur ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for Congress in 1974 and later, also unsuccessfully, for the state Assembly and the County Board of Supervisors.

In 1974, he was the first male candidate endorsed at the National Women’s Political Caucus. He had been elected to the Ventura County Democratic Central Committee, was past president of the Camarillo Democratic Club and was a member of the World Affairs Council.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Jolicoeur of Camarillo; his daughters, Colette Jolicoeur Tuchman of Camarillo, Mary O’Connell of Mammoth Lakes, Jeanne Patlin of Los Angeles, Amie Ryan of Pine Mountain, Calif., Lisa Jolicoeur of San Francisco, Jacqueline Jolicoeur of Ventura, Nannette Jolicoeur of Washington, D.C., and Nicole Harrison of Ventura; his sons, Jerome Jolicoeur of Ventura, Jon Jolicoeur of Ashland, Ore., Jim Jolicoeur of Camarillo, and Tim Jolicoeur of Ventura; his stepson, Michael Quinn of Phoenix; his brother, Patrick Jolicoeur of Riverside; his sisters, Donna Dugas of Reno and Mary Jane Meyer of Branson, Mo.; and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo.

Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Padre Serra Catholic Church in Camarillo, with Father Liam Kidney officiating. Burial will be in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Camarillo or to the Padre Serra Building Fund in Camarillo.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary.
