COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Morgan Takes Control of Loose Ball for Titan Victory

Caren Morgan knocked in a loose ball from 10 yards with 14 minutes remaining to give Cal State Fullerton a 3-2 victory over USC in a nonconference women’s soccer game Wednesday at Cal State Fullerton.

The Titans (6-1) trailed twice in the contest, but goals by Amber Dickey and Dolores Browning got them even.

Dickey scored less than a minute after Amy Peterson had given USC a 1-0 lead in the first half and Browning followed Tara Koleski’s goal with one of her own in the 66th minute.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer:

Southern California College 1, California Baptist 0--Shirley Jareb, on an assist by Meggen Fleener, scored the winning goal for SCC midway through the second half. Amy Lewis, with her first shutout of the season, had 12 saves for SCC (7-3, 2-0).

In nonconference women’s soccer:

Chapman 5, Whittier 1--Kim Wyer scored two of her three goals in the first half for host Chapman, which outshot Whittier, 20-3. Wyer, who has nine goals this season, posted her second hat trick and teammate Mary Folino added two goals for Chapman (5-3). Whittier is 1-7-1.

UC Irvine 3, Hawaii 0--Freshman Simone Ferrara had two assists for the Anteaters (6-0-2), who won their fifth consecutive game to tie a school record.

Irvine sophomore Tracie Manz scored in the first half, Nicole Bucciarelli and Nicole Kelly added second-half goals and goalies Stephanie Boes and Jennifer LaFemina posted the shutout.

Boes has not allowed a goal this season.

In nonconference men’s soccer:

Cal State Fullerton 3, Chapman 1--Matt Bradbury had two goals and Charlie Lynch had two assists for host Fullerton (6-3).

Midway through the first half, Ruben Tavares scored to give the Titans a 2-0 lead. Eric Hurtarte scored for Chapman (5-2) in the 33rd minute to make it, 2-1, but Bradbury scored with less than two minutes left in the first half to give the Titans a two-goal lead.

Concordia 3, Christian Heritage 0--Steve Steele and Todd Gibson each had a goal and two assists for host Concordia (1-7).

In nonconference water polo:

Chapman loses to Whittier, Redlands--Chapman (3-8) was held to two first-half goals in its 14-7 loss to Whittier and then was outscored by Redlands, 13-11, in the second game.

Chapman’s Miles Takahashi had four goals and Scott Mitchell three against Redlands.
