COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Wilson and LSU Limp to 20-20 Tie Against South Carolina
Sheddrick Wilson, who sprained his left knee and ankle in the first half, returned to catch a 19-yard touchdown pass with 1:06 left as No. 14 LSU salvaged a 20-20 tie against South Carolina in a Southeastern Conference game.
Wilson limped most of the second half after getting helped off the field in the second quarter. But he sped past safety Chris Abrahams, slanting toward the middle of the field to make the catch that cut South Carolina’s lead to 20-19.
First-year LSU Coach Gerry DiNardo quickly ended any thoughts of a miracle finish, electing not to try for a two-point conversion against South Carolina (1-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the SEC).
“I didn’t hesitate at all,” he said. “I knew what I was going to do. I thought our defense was going to get the ball back.”
Andre Lafleur tied it with the extra point for LSU (3-1-1, 3-0-1).
“I knew I was going to be limited as to what I could do,” said Wilson, who finished with six receptions. “But I also know I have a high pain tolerance and it was going to take more than a sprained knee or ankle to keep me out of a game.”
