THOUSAND OAKS : Council to Discuss Raising Sewer Fees
The Thousand Oaks City Council today will discuss raising sewer fees by $7 a year for each customer to help pay for the refurbishment and expansion of the Hill Canyon Wastewater Treatment Plant.
“It needs an upgrade to meet new expansion,” Mayor Jaime Zukowski said. The plant is also in need of repair to meet new federal pollution standards.
To that end, the council is expected to award a $5.1-million contract to Kiewit Pacific Co. of Ventura to replace or repair two so-called digesters. The firm will be paid to add another digester, which helps treat the city’s sewer water.
Charging new developments increased hookup fees will also be discussed.
“I want to be sure that new development is paying its full costs,” Zukowski said.
The City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
