Obituaries : * Elmer (Pete) Dykstra; Business Owner

Elmer (Pete) Dykstra, a longtime Ventura resident and business owner, died Monday at his home after a brief illness. He was 70.

Dykstra, who was born June 10, 1925, in Sibley, Iowa, moved to Ventura County 45 years ago from Iowa.

He had owned and operated Ventura Acoustics, a ceiling installation firm in Ventura, for 18 years before his retirement in 1980. He was also a carpenter for 50 years and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 150.

Dykstra was active in Elks Lodge No. 1443 of Oxnard and in Ventura Moose Lodge No. 1394.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Dykstra of Ventura; his daughters, Barb Grose of Camarillo, Sandy Legan of Ventura and Cindy Vogus of Simi Valley; his sister, Sarah Clark of Oxnard; his brothers, Jerry Dykstra of Oxnard, Henry Dykstra of Sibley, Iowa, and William and August Dykstra, both of Escondido; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, with the Rev. Jim Wells of the funeral home officiating. Burial will follow in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
