IRVINE : Police to Unveil a Site on World Wide Web
In an attempt to improve communication with the public, the city Police Department is unveiling its World Wide Web site on the Internet today.
“We are real happy to finally have the ability to share information with the public over the computer,” Irvine Police Lt. Sam Allevato said.
Allevato said the information appearing on the Internet site will save residents from driving to the station or making calls to gather routine information.
For example, the police have put together information on what happens to a police report once it is filed, how long it will take to process and how to request a copy of the report.
Officers also hope the Web site will help get the public more involved in their investigations. Since the World Wide Web pages of the Internet allow photos as well as text, the police can post wanted pictures along with details of the case.
“The idea is to get the public to help if they can,” Allevato said.
Some information on the Web site--such as where to go for help in various crisis situations--will be permanently displayed. Other information--such as events going on in the city--will be periodically updated.
The site’s address is https://www.ni.net/irvinepd/.
