Southeast/ Long Beach : DEBATING POLICY

Share

An eight-part conference on affirmative action begins Thursday at Cal State Long Beach.

Called “Learning from the Past, Planning for the Future,” the conference is designed to be a “discussion, examination and even a debate about the affirmative action policy in the public and private sectors,” said organizer and political science professor Gerry Riposa.

Roger Wilkins, a history professor at George Mason University and a longtime critic of racism, will open the conference at 2 p.m. Thursday in the university’s student union.

The conference will conclude Nov. 8 in the university’s multipurpose rooms with a panel discussion called “Affirmative Action and the Future of California.” All events are free and open to the public except for an Oct. 11 performance by Culture Clash, a comic performing group specializing in political satire. Tickets for that show cost $3 for students, $12 for the public. For information on the conference, contact Prof. Gerry Riposa at (310) 985-4704.
