Central : ORANGE : Police Seek Applicants for Citizens Academy

Share

The Police Department is seeking residents to take part in the city’s first citizen police academy, a free class designed to promote interaction between police officers and the residents they serve.

Residents who sign up for the 12-week course will receive an overview of how the Police Department runs. They will meet the chief and other police employees, and officers will instruct them on patrol procedures, the criminal justice system, the use of force and other aspects of the department.

Academy members will also go on a 10-hour ride along with a patrol officer and view demonstrations of the SWAT team and the department’s K-9 unit.

Classes begin in January and will meet for three hours every Wednesday evening. The academy is approved by Chapman University for continuing-education unit credits, police said.
