San Fernando Valley : Elks Open Door but Women Aren’t There
That most male of fraternal organizations, the Elks, has voted to accept female members, but in the San Fernando Valley, women have not lined up to join.
The 127-year-old Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks decided overwhelmingly to allow women. But Jim Leister of the Van Nuys-Reseda lodge said he knows of no women waiting to wear the jeweled Elk chains or learn the secret Elk salute.
