Rockwell Telecommunications Forms New Wireless Division

Rockwell Telecommunications said Monday it has merged two operating units into a new wireless communications division to take advantage of common technologies as it pushes into the growing market for wireless communications products.

The new division was formed by consolidating Rockwell’s wireless systems unit, which produces silicon-based microchips, and its Microelectronics Technology Center, which develops and manufactures gallium arsenide chips.

Vijay Parikh, formerly business director of wireless systems, has been appointed vice president of the new division, reporting to Dwight Decker, president of Rockwell Telecommunications.

The new division will focus on products including power amplifier and front-end receiver components for cellular and personal communications telephone systems, global positioning system receivers, and chips with internal modems that can handle both data and facsimile transmissions.

Rockwell Telecommunications is based in Newport Beach and is a unit of Seal Beach-based Rockwell International Corp.
