GUILTY PLEAS: After a 10-month probe, the district attorney's official-misconduct unit obtained a guilty plea from Moorpark Councilman Scott Montgomery to felony and misdemeanor counts of conflict of interest, forcing Montgomery's immediate resignation as a public official (B1). . . . The unit was created in 1993 by Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury to hunt down public corruption in Ventura County. One earlier case resulted in guilty pleas by two card-club promoters for money laundering in connection with small contributions to Oxnard political campaigns.

NEED TO KNOW: So you're out for a weekend drive on the Pacific Coast Highway and you hear gunfire, followed by explosions. Not to worry. . . . It's just an annual training exercise of the California Air National Guard. The drill starts today about noon and runs through midday Sunday at the base near California 1 and Wood Road. . . . Although there will be some pyrotechnics, most of the exercise is quiet. Its aim is to practice deploying about 900 Guard members.

BABY DOC: Dr. Robert Wallace, who has been delivering babies for 14 years at Westlake Medical Center in Westlake Village, had the honor Thursday of delivering what may be the last baby ever to be born at the small community hospital (B1). . . . Wallace, who lives about two blocks from the hospital, figures he's delivered about 2,000 babies over the years. Among his favorite deliveries: his own son, Joshua.

PERSONAL QUEST: After Marie Cutshall lost two friends to breast cancer, she found herself drawn to the fight against the disease. "I saw some of their anguish about leaving their families," Cutshall says of her friends, both of whom had teen-age children. . . . Now, the Westlake Village resident is head of the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Walk, Rally and Fair to be held Saturday at the Camarillo Factory Stores, 740 Ventura Blvd. . . . Breast cancer information will be available, as well as mammograms for $50.
