THOUSAND OAKS : Orchestra to Give Premiere Concert

Share

With an infusion of strong performers, the newly formed Cal Lutheran University community orchestra will present its premiere concert tonight at 8 p.m. at the school’s Samuelson Chapel.

This season’s orchestra consists of about 20 players from the now defunct Conejo Symphony and about 45 students, conductor Daniel Geeting said.

The Conejo players--who left their orchestra when it merged with the Ventura County Symphony to form the New West Symphony--will increase the caliber of the performance, Geeting said.

“I am looking forward to a great deal of growth and increased sophistication,” he said.

Tonight’s concert will include Preciosa Overture by Carl Maria von Weber, “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair” by Claude Debussy, Symphony No. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven and Concertpiece No. 1 by Felix Mendelssohn.

Tickets for the performance cost $5. All proceeds will go to the school’s general music department account.
