A 63-year-old Placentia man died of head injuries early Wednesday after his car ran off U.S. Highway 169 just north of Oologah in northeastern Oklahoma, authorities said.
Ronald Lee Gilworth brought his 1995 Ford Contour back onto the highway but overcorrected, and the vehicle went off on the other side and overturned, becoming impaled on a utility pole, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Gilworth died at the scene of the 12:25 a.m. accident.
“The car was totaled,” dispatcher Adam Hull said.
Seat belts were not in use in Gilworth’s car, which was a rental, the highway patrol said. But an air bag was deployed. The reason for the crash was unknown.
Family members told authorities that Gilworth, who worked in the aerospace industry, had traveled to Oklahoma for a job interview, Hull said.
