Renowned Oscar-winning documentarian Marcel Ophuls will be honored Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, 8949 Wilshire Blvd.
The tribute will be part of the second International Documentary Congress, which opens at the academy that morning.
Among those participating are Paul Hamann, producer of two Ophuls films, and Daniel Schorr, senior news analyst for National Public Radio and keynote speaker for the IDC.
The tribute will be hosted by Robert Rosen, chair of the UCLA Film and Television Archive and of the university’s film department.
The tribute will include clips from “The Sorrow and the Pity” (1971), an exploration of French collaborators during the Occupation; “The Memory of Justice” (1974), about the Nuremburg Trials; “Hotel Terminus: The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie,” which won an Oscar in 1988; and “The Troubles We’ve Seen,” a survey of news coverage in Sarajevo.
