OXNARD : Man May Get 9-Year Term in Shooting

Share

An Oxnard man faces nine years in prison for participating in a drive-by shooting that wounded a pregnant Newbury Park woman in a case of mistaken identity.

A jury spent less than two hours before convicting William Morris, 19, of assault with a firearm and two related charges Thursday. Investigators said Morris and two accomplices fired up to 30 shots into a home on Fallbrook Avenue, where they mistakenly believed a rival gang member lived.

Leslie Sullivan was seven months pregnant when she was shot in the leg in October, 1994. She has recovered from the wounds and her baby was uninjured in the attack.

Morris is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 17.

One teen-ager has previously pleaded guilty to assault with a firearm and two related charges in the incident and another, Danny Duarte, is scheduled to go on trial next month.
