CYPRESS : City Revives Review of Race Track Parking

Share

After postponing a consultant’s study of parking needs at Los Alamitos Race Course because of concerns about the cost, the city is proceeding with the review.

In September, the City Council halted the parking survey because members feared that the city would have to pick up part of the tab.

But in a recent memo to the council, Public Works Director Mark Christoffels said that “representatives from the race track property contacted staff indicating that they wanted to proceed with the parking study at their cost.”

Christoffels added that the consultant “is now working on the study.”

At issue is whether the race track can convert some of its existing parking areas to other uses. Race track officials have said that a downturn in track attendance has reduced the need for parking spaces.

A development agreement between the city and the racetrack, however, requires a formal study of parking whenever changes at the track are requested.
