Museum in Burbank Should Be Kept Open

Share

* It has just been made known to me that the [Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County’s] Burbank Gallery and Discovery Center may close. How sad to lose this fine learning center and entertainment source.

As an L.A. Unified School District teacher of special education adults, as a mother and grandmother of four, ages 13 to 3, this will be a loss to us all.

My students and I have visited the center twice during each different display. My clients have loved all the exhibitions. Each has been well thought out and presented to maximize learning.

I took my 5- and 6-year-old grandchildren to the museum, then to lunch, then to see “Snow White.” Three times during the film they both asked, “Can we go back to the museum?” We left the theater and returned to the museum. What greater proof does anyone need of its interest and value?

Many people do not know this museum exists. Perhaps it needs greater advertising, the disseminating of monthly passes, reuse of previous displays, etc.

There are hundreds of us who want officials to please reconsider and keep the Burbank museum open. Children and adults--the entire community--stand to benefit.
