MOORPARK : New Panel to Help Guide School District

Share

Having experienced rapid growth over the past 10 years, the Moorpark School District is setting up a new committee to help guide it through the next 10 years, a period that is expected to see sharp increases in enrollment.

The district dealt with growth over the past decade by building new schools--all but two of the district’s nine schools have been built since 1984.

But despite the success of meeting that growth, the district is now faced with elementary schools that are at capacity and a high school that will reach capacity within three years.

New development, which planners predict will again make the community one of the fastest-growing cities in Ventura County, threatens to overrun the district’s ability to build new classrooms, district Supt. Tom Duffy said recently.

Those interested in participating on the committee, which will look at the academic direction the district will take, should call the district for more information. Applications will be accepted until Nov. 13. For more information, call 378-6300.
