Share

A 32-year-old Simi Valley woman was in intensive care Saturday, a day after she shot and wounded herself in the head with a rented gun at a shooting gallery in an apparent suicide attempt, police said.

The woman had been shooting at targets with a .38-caliber revolver for about 15 minutes Friday afternoon when another gun user noticed that she had fallen to the floor and had a head wound, said Simi Valley Police Lt. Neal Rein. The incident occurred at Shooter’s Paradise pistol range, 440 E. Easy St.

Store owners called police and paramedics arrived to take the woman to Simi Valley Hospital, where she remained in intensive care Saturday after surgery.

As she was wheeled out of the store, the woman could be seen talking to paramedics, despite the blood leaking from her wound through a bandage on the right side of her head. No one using the target range saw her fire the shot that caused the wound, according to Rein.
