When the Rams booked for St. Louis and the Raiders skulked back to Oakland this year, it was bruited about that L.A. fans hadn’t shown the teams sufficient dedication. Well, dudes, a review of season-ticket stats among L.A.-area teams staying put reveals a sometimes alarming level of fan fealty.

Los Angeles Dodgers

First season: 1962.

Remaining original season-ticket holders: more than 1,000.

Cost of seats per game in 1962: $2.50 and $3.50.

Now: $8 to $13.

Location of seats: varies.

Addenda: So many fans held onto their season tickets, says Deborah Duncan, director of ticket operations for the Dodgers, “it frustrates new customers because they can only move up very slowly.”

California Angels

First season: 1961.

Remaining original season-ticket holders: 49.

Cost of seats per game in 1961: $3.50.

Now: $7 to $13.

Location of seats: varies.

Addenda: In this, the Angels’ 35th season, the team honored its most stalwart fans with aplomb: Eight threw out the first balls on opening night, and all 49 received autographed lithos of owner Gene Autry.

Los Angeles Lakers

First season: 1960-61.

Remaining original season-ticket holders: 200.

Cost of seats per game in 1960: $4.

Now: $9.50 to $100.

Location of seats: basket to basket, 25 rows up.

Addenda: One of the last original season-ticket holders suffered a heart attack last year; two weeks later he was back at his seat. “I always come down onto the court before games, and we’d wave to each other,” says Lakers director of sales, Steve Chase “One day last year I looked up and he wasn’t there.”

Addenda: When the Clippers moved from San Diego to Los Angeles in 1984, only one season-ticket holder followed, driving up for every game. He recently relocated to Riverside and still attends home games.
