Prosecutors Refuse to Return Simpson’s Clothes, Credit Cards

O.J. Simpson got his passport and Hall of Fame ring back after he was acquitted of killing Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman, but prosecutors have refused to return other property--from clothes to credit cards--according to a motion filed Monday in Los Angeles.

Simpson attorney Carl Douglas wrote that he has repeatedly asked for the property since the acquittals Oct. 3, but Deputy Dist. Atty. Alan Yochelson’s office “will not agree to the release of any other items without a formal hearing.”

Yochelson was not in Monday and the district attorney’s office had not been served with the motion, so she could not comment, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the office.

Douglas asked Superior Court Judge Lance A. Ito to hold a hearing Oct. 31 at 9 a.m. “or as soon thereafter as counsel may be heard.”

Douglas attached several property reports to the motion. Among items listed on those reports are Reebok athletic shoes, golf shoes, a handgun, a cellular telephone, ammunition, a “Frogmen” videotape, a plastic bag containing a fake goatee, fake mustache and make-up remover, a garage door opener; the cassettes “Too Funky” and “Frank Sinatra Duets,” a duffel bag containing $3.93 in coins, a $5,000 check, two watches, cuff links and eight ballpoint pens, Calvin Klein underwear, and an Armani eyeglass case.

Credit or membership cards seized included Chevron, Sears, AT&T;, GTE, the Automobile Club of Southern California, Hertz, Price Club, United Red Carpet Club, U.S. Air Club, Delta Crown Room, Admirals Club, American Airlines Advantage Gold, Northwest World Clubs, West Hills County Club, Blockbuster and a Hooters VIP card.

The motion said Simpson wants back all property seized from his home and Ford Bronco on June 13, June 17, and June 28, 1994.
