The Children and Family Commission of Ventura County, an advisory body made up of 11 elected officials, will meet in Camarillo at 6:30 p.m. today to discuss three issues related to youth.

The commission will consider the “Family Preservation and Family Support Community-Based Service Plan,” which recommends distributing more than $250,000 in state money to Fillmore, Piru and the Avenue area of Ventura. The plan, developed through a $10,000 grant from the California Department of Social Services, will be presented to the county Board of Supervisors on Nov. 14 for final approval.

The “Youth Violence Prevention Summit Synthesis,” a report based on the May, 1995, Summit on Youth Violence for Ventura County, will be unveiled as a basis for a county plan to reduce violence among the young.

Finally, the commission will hear a report on federal block grant funding legislation under consideration in Congress. One pending grant, the Youth Development Block Grant, could mean $5 million to $6 million for the county, according to some estimates.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the county superintendent of schools office, 5189 Verdugo Way, Camarillo.
